Parrot Play Stands UK: Java Tree & Tabletop Stands

Short answer: a parrot play stand gives your bird a safe place to perch, climb and play outside its cage, so it can be part of family life. Choose the stand by your bird’s size. A tall Java wood tree suits macaws, cockatoos and African Greys. A floor stand with castors and a seed catcher suits small and medium parrots. A tabletop stand works for budgies, cockatiels and small parrots.

Here are the play stands we stock, with sizes from each product page.

Why get a play stand?

  • Out-of-cage time: parrots need hours outside the cage every day, and a stand gives that time a home base.
  • Exercise: climbing between branches and ladders keeps feet and muscles working.
  • Less mess: bowls, trays and seed catchers keep food and droppings in one place.
  • Training: a stand is a good spot for step-up and target training.

Stands by bird size

Macaws and large cockatoos: Java Tree Large

The Java Tree Large is a 150 cm tree on a 102 × 58 cm base, made for macaws, large cockatoos and similar birds. It comes with two feeding bowls. Natural Java wood branches give big feet different grips, and there’s plenty of room to hang toys.

African Grey parrot stands: Java Midi Tree, Forest Jungle or Mini Tree

For an African Grey or Amazon, the Java Midi Tree is a roughly 120 cm floor-standing tree on a 48 × 75 cm base, with one bowl. If you’d rather have a tidy stand you can wheel from room to room, the Liberta Forest Jungle has castors, a pull-out tray, a seed catcher, a swing, two ladders and three perches. For a stand that sits on a table or worktop, the Java Mini Tree Medium is a 60 cm tree on a 58 × 36 cm base. For cage advice, see our best cages for African Grey parrots.

Budgies, cockatiels and small parrots: Table Stand

The Liberta Table Stand is a 43 × 43 × 30 cm wooden stand with three perches at different heights and a colourful ladder. It’s ideal on a table while your small bird is out with you.

Safe woods and cleaning

  • Java wood comes from plantation trees in Indonesia. It’s hard and naturally shaped, with different branch thicknesses for healthy feet.
  • Bowls: on the Java Mini Tree, don’t over-tighten the bowl fixings, as they can crack.
  • Cleaning: wipe droppings daily. Scrub wood with hot water and a bird-safe cleaner, then let it dry fully before your bird uses it.
  • Toys: hang toys from branches or hooks, and check our bird-safe rope guide first.
  • Supervision: stay nearby while your bird is on a stand, especially if other pets are around.

Play stand or cage stand?

A play stand is somewhere for your bird to perch and play. A cage stand holds a cage up at the right height. If you’re after the second, see our cage stands buying guide. Many of our cages also have a play top built in. See our large parrot cages and Rainforest parrot cages guides.

Play stand FAQs

What size play stand does an African Grey need?

A floor tree around 120 cm tall, such as the Java Midi Tree, or a medium stand like the Forest Jungle. The Java Mini Tree Medium is a smaller tabletop option.

Are Java wood stands safe for parrots?

Java wood is a popular natural perch wood for parrots. As with any perch, check it regularly for damage and replace chewed parts.

Can I leave my parrot on a play stand alone?

Only for short spells in a safe room. A stand is open, so stay close, and keep doors, windows and other pets in mind.
